Does your face need a workout?
If you desire a more youthful looking face or would like to slow down the signs of aging, then the answer is YES.
A new study shows that exercising your face can give you the lift you are looking for without surgery.
As we age our skin loses elasticity and fat pads between the muscle and skin become thinner. This leads to wrinkles and a “fallen” face. It makes sense that by strengthening and enlarging the facial muscles, the skin becomes more firm and toned.
According to a new Northwestern Medicine study, performing a 30-minute daily or every other day facial exercise program for over 20 weeks, “improved the facial appearance of middle-aged women, resulting in a younger appearance with fuller upper and lower cheeks.”
“Now there is some evidence that facial exercises may improve facial appearance and reduce some visible signs of aging,” said lead author Dr. Murad Alam, vice chair and professor of dermatology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a Northwestern Medicine dermatologist. “The exercises enlarge and strengthen the facial muscles, so the face becomes firmer and more toned and shaped like a younger face.”
