I’m sure it’s no surprise that I eat a very healthy diet. It includes a lots of vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats. No meat or dairy.
Yes I do eat carbohydrates – mostly in the form of fruits and vegetables but I also include oats and quinoa and now and then other healthy grains. I do not eat added sugars nor do I use white flour. Any sweets I eat are typically made by me. I exercise regularly. It is incredibly rare that I consume alcohol. You probably think this sounds terrible but I actually enjoy eating the way that I do. I feel like garbage when I eat garbage.
BUT I AM A HUMAN BEING.
When I turned 30 I suddenly started liking chocolate. I had never really been into chocolate. Growing up my sister would eat chocolate brownies while I preferred a bowl of Cool Whip. Yep just a bowl of Cool Whip. Now, I can’t get enough of the stuff. While I would never eat a candy bar I do indulge in my own homemade treats.
My chocolate comes in the way of adding cocoa powder to smoothies or making some sort of homemade healthy treat with cocoa powder. Though rare, If I buy a piece of chocolate it would be the darkest chocolate I can find. It may sound boring but I use cocoa powder to flavor the treats that I make it home and my smoothies and that really does the trick. These treats are honestly really good.
And I seriously eat chocolate every single day. Sometimes multiple times a day. And that’s okay. Like you, the indulgences keep me from going insane. They keep me on track because I don’t feel deprived.
The key is that I’m in control of it. I know exactly what I’m putting in my body.
Something like chocolate can be a part of a healthy lifestyle. You’ve just got to own it and control it.
