I saw that quote somewhere and thought it was appropriate for one of the most common questions I get… “Can “Spot” training help you lose fat in specific areas?”
You can not exercise a spot of fat away. When your body loses fat, it loses fat from all over. While specific exercises target specific muscles, it will not reduce fat from that area.
Typically when you try to spot train, you focus on smaller muscles rather than larger muscle groups. If you spend most of your time working the smaller muscles you are going to become very frustrated very fast as you won’t be seeing results. It compares to cooking a turkey with a candle. It will take a long time to see the results you desire.
Strength training your whole body (along with nutrition that supports your efforts) will burn calories and help you reduce body fat so lift, squat, push and pull your heart out. Once you have reduced your body fat, you’ll have that sleek physique you’ve been working toward.
